Question
How many clerical and administrative staff have been absent from work over the last 12 months in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
Information on NHS sickness absence is published on StatsWales.
Sickness absence is routinely reported as a sickness absence rate, rather than the number of individuals absent from work. This is because a count of staff who have had any sickness absence during a period does not reflect the duration of absence and can therefore give a misleading picture of overall sickness levels.
Data are not published specifically for ‘administrative and clerical staff’. However, the closest published staff group is ‘administrative, estates and general payments staff’. The latest published data available are for the 2025 calendar year. For the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board the sickness absence rate for this staff group in 2025 was 5.3%.
