2. Early Years, Children, Young People and Education Committee: Remit of the Committee
The Chair outlined the committee's remit, which the Business Committee set widely on purpose. She proposed writing to the Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee about shared work on children's health.
- Sera Evans (Plaid Cymru) said the remit is deliberately wide-ranging, as allocated by the Business Committee. It covers early years, education (including the Welsh language in education), skills, and children's health and well-being, including social care and healthcare.
- Sera Evans (Plaid Cymru) said there will be crossover with other committees, and that the committee can take evidence from six Ministers.
- Sera Evans (Plaid Cymru) said children's health is a shared interest with the Health and Social Care Committee, and child poverty is shared with the equality committee. She noted that the last committee's legacy report said only a brief piece of work had been done on children's health.
- Sera Evans (Plaid Cymru) proposed writing to the Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee to highlight the crossover, and said the committee could consider the issue in its strategic planning later that day. She asked Members whether they agreed with this approach.
Opening of the meeting
The committee met in the Senedd and by video-conference.
The meeting began at 09:15.
