The Local Elections (Principal Areas) (Single Transferable Vote) (Wales) Rules 2023

Welsh Labour's Lesley Griffiths asked the Senedd to approve draft rules for running council elections in Wales using the single transferable vote (STV), a system where voters rank candidates. Minister Rebecca Evans said councils can choose STV or keep first-past-the-post. The Senedd approved the rules.

Motion
Whether to approve the draft rules for how council elections using the single transferable vote would be run in Wales.
Agreed
For 36Against 14

Plaid Cymru Debate - Bus services

Plaid Cymru's Heledd Fychan asked the Senedd to back bus services and call on the Welsh Government to protect, invest in and expand them. Welsh Labour's Lesley Griffiths proposed changing the wording on funding and Brexit. The Senedd rejected both the amendment and the motion, so nothing was agreed.

Motion without amendment
Whether to agree Plaid Cymru's motion on bus services as originally written, with no changes.
Rejected
For 26Against 27
Amendment 1, tabled in the name of Lesley Griffiths
Whether to replace points 2, 3 and 4 with Labour's wording on over £200m of emergency bus funding and the UK Government's Brexit promise.
RejectedGovernment defeated
For 26Against 27

How these votes work: the Senedd first votes on the motion as written. If that fails, it votes on each amendment in turn, then on the motion with any agreed changes.

Explanations are written by AI from the published motion and the debate. Check the wording on the vote's page before quoting.
