What consideration has the Cabinet Minister given to introducing academies and free schools in Wales such as those introduced by the UK Department of Education?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
We are not considering the introduction of academies and free schools in Wales. The Welsh Government is committed to a comprehensive education system that provides equitable opportunities for all learners and is rooted in collaboration rather than competition.
We believe that every child should have equal access to a well-resourced, broad and balanced education, whatever their background or academic proficiency. Comprehensive education also sends out an important message about children being educated together regardless of class, faith or prior attainment.
