Will the Minister provide an update on work the Welsh Government is doing to promote the development of brownfield sites in Wales, and does the Welsh Government consider introducing a brownfield register?

National planning policy contained in Planning Policy Wales (PPW) explicitly states that brownfield sites should, wherever possible, be used in preference to greenfield sites where it is suitable for development. When preparing development plans, local planning authorities should work with landowners and other stakeholders to ensure that suitably located brownfield sites can be brought forward and developed in a coherent way.
Rather than requiring the provision of a separate brownfield register, PPW requires an integrated approach which incentivises the use of brownfield land as part of a strategic approach to placemaking. This enables the specific interventions necessary for delivery by both the public and private sector to be identified in a transparent and comprehensive manner.
