In addition to tackling climate change through carbon sequestration, it is widely accepted that trees and woodlands in and around towns and cities have a vital role to play in promoting sustainable communities. An important component of green infrastructure, trees can contribute to improved health and well-being, increased recreational opportunities and can improve the environmental performance of buildings by reducing heating and cooling costs. Welsh Government supported the iTree project, which calculated the benefits of trees in four of our towns and cities. Our National Forest Evidence Pack https://erammp.wales/en/r-forest-evidence includes an evidence review of urban forests.
