How can the Welsh Government support credit union services in Alyn & Deeside?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Social Justice
Cambrian Credit Union is now actively promoting their service across the whole of Flintshire in light of the closure of All Flintshire Credit Union. This will ensure that people who are financially vulnerable will continue to be able to access affordable credit and savings, either face to face or online.
In response to the situation, Welsh Government agreed in December 2021 to provide grant funding of up to £90,000 to Cambrian Credit Union to provide a physical presence within Flintshire, supporting access to affordable and responsible loans and savings over the next two years.
I am aware that Cambrian Credit Union have secured the use of a Hwb within Holywell, which is to open very shortly, four days per week. I understand that they will also be seeking to establish a part time physical presence within the Alyn and Deeside area, and are currently looking at a number of options and locations within this area, including within Shotton.
