Why is the Welsh Government canvassing hospitals in south Wales to donate medical supplies to Ukraine when these could be purchased from the £4 million it has set aside for Ukraine?

Atebwyd gan Minister for Health and Social Services
The Welsh Government made an initial donation of £4m to the Disaster Emergency Committee to provide support in Ukraine where it is needed most, which was not specifically for medical care. Donating to the DEC appeal is the best way for the people in Wales to support people in Ukraine, as supplies can be bought as near to where they are needed as possible and support populations in crisis.
NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, working with health boards across Wales, has donated medical supplies and equipment, which have been specifically requested by Ukraine and it continues to establish whether we have other medical supplies that can be donated if they are needed. The Welsh Government, for its part, also continues to work with other UK health departments to establish what further medical supplies the Ukrainian government may need that could be provided.
