Will the Minister make a statement about the availability of functional electrical stimulation therapy for MS sufferers in Wales?

Atebwyd gan Minister for Health and Social Services
There is good evidence that Functional Electrical Stimulation Therapy (FES) can improve muscle movement in a range of clinical conditions including MS. It can be used as an adjunct to therapy or purely as an orthotic device. It does not have any impact on impairment in the longer term.
Across Wales, there are several clinicians including physiotherapists and podiatrists who are competent at using FES and it is offered to people with MS in a number of health boards. However, for many patients the provision of good orthotics can have the same effect.
Provision across Wales is based on availability of competent staff and clinical decision making for the individual patient. Some health boards have been impacted by Covid and staffing issues and they are working hard to restore provision to pre-Covid levels.
