Atebwyd gan Minister for Finance and Local Government
Welsh Government intervention in the running of local authorities should only be considered as a last resort. Whilst there is a need to ensure people across Wales receive the public services they need, there is also a need to ensure local democratic processes are respected wherever possible.
Welsh Ministers’ powers to formally intervene in the running of a local authority must be based on strong evidence of systemic issues which the council requires support to address, normally from statutory Regulators such as the Auditor General for Wales.
