What discussions has the Minister had with South Wales Police regarding tackling illegal drugs in central Cardiff?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Social Justice
Substance misuse policy is devolved to Wales, however both the legal framework relating to the misuse of drugs and the policing and criminal justice approach to substance misuse issues are reserved to the UK Government
We have regular discussions and engagement with the Chiefs and Police and Crime Commissioners of all four forces through both informal and formal forums.
At the most strategic level this is via the Policing Partnership Board for Wales which brings together senior policing leads across Wales, including the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales. The meetings are chaired by me or the First Minister. The Board last met on 22 Sept and substance misuse was a substantive agenda item.
I have also recently agreed with the lead PCC for Wales that substance misuse will be a recurring item at our regular bilateral meetings.
