What is the Welsh Government doing to stop doctors leaving the workforce?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Health and Social Services
There are now more doctors working in Wales than at any time previously, and we must ensure that we support and retain the existing workforce to support recovery of the wider system. NHS bodies have a range of policies and initiatives in place to retain their highly valuable staff, including flexible and part-time working, and health and wellbeing support.
We will continue to increase staffing numbers through a range of retention and recruitment strategies, including international recruitment where this is ethical, and record investment in education and training programmes. We are also developing a Workforce Implementation Plan that will underpin the Workforce Strategy for Health and Social Care with a series of short and medium-term actions to address immediate priorities in our workforce, ensuring we have a sustainable workforce fit for now and the future.
