Will the Minister provide an update on any further discussions had with building developers who have yet to sign-up to a commitment to rectify fire safety issues in buildings that they developed?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Climate Change
I have always maintained the position that the industry should step-up to their responsibilities in matters of fire safety. Developers should put right fire safety faults at their own cost or risk their professional reputation.
I published a written statement providing an update about building safety on 7 October (and subsequent update).
The major developers which have signed up to the Welsh Government’s Developers Pact, have confirmed their intention to address fire safety issues in buildings of 11 metres and over in height that they have developed over the last 30 years.
For those developers unwilling to engage, I am exploring all options, including legislation, to ensure that those developers who are not prepared to engage will face consequences for their actions.
