Will the Minister make a statement on the environmental impact of detonating unexploded ordnance on the seabed, and outline what action the Welsh Government is taking to prevent this impact?

The assessment of any potential impacts to the marine environment resulting from unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance is a regulatory matter for relevant decision-makers, for example, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) with respect to marine licensing.
I am committed to protecting our marine environment and achieving good environmental status. I support the development and use of lower noise alternatives when considering new ways to clear UXOs related to marine developments, where it is appropriate and safe for the environment and human health. As stated in the interim position statement on the clearance of UXOs in the marine environment, robust evidence is required to support the effectiveness of lower noise alternatives. My officials will be discussing this matter further with the other UK administrations late October.
