What measures are being taken by the Welsh Government to mitigate the impact of spent lead gunshot being ingested by companion animals and wild birds in Wales?

The Welsh Government is concerned by the harm being done to wild birds, animals, humans and the wider environment through the deposition of lead ammunition over both land and water. In April 2021, the Welsh, Scottish and UK Governments initiated the process for restricting lead in ammunition through the UK registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (REACH) Regulation. The Health and Safety Executive has been taking this work forward in Great Britain and has a consultation currently open on the proposed restriction, which closes on 6 November.
