We have a robust system of service regulation in Wales, established by the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016. This is underpinned by regulations which place clear requirements on providers of regulated services (including care homes), as well as statutory guidance.
Care Inspectorate Wales, the service regulator in Wales, registers, inspects and takes action to improve the quality and safety of services. It has a range of powers to intervene where concerns are identified, including restricting the provision a provider can deliver or closing the service in serious cases. The inspectorate works also closely with partner agencies, where appropriate. The Chief Inspector’s annual report has recently been published and is available at: Our annual reports | Care Inspectorate Wales
Concerns about the conduct of a registered person can be raised with Social Care Wales, the workforce regulator.
In addition, The Wales Safeguarding Procedures and All Wales Practice Guides, owned by the Regional Safeguarding Boards, help practitioners apply the legislation Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 and statutory safeguarding guidance Working Together to Safeguard People. They promote consistent, evidence-based safeguarding practices across agencies and across Wales. Training has been provided on the Procedures and guides, facilitated by the Safeguarding Boards.
