Will the Minister provide an update on the use of locum staff in the NHS?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Health and Social Services
The Welsh Government recognises the valuable additional resource provided by locum staff when covering sickness, maternity and other absences. However, we are concerned about rising expenditure and we will be working with NHS Wales and trade union colleagues to fully understand the current position, reduce expenditure and address over-reliance on locum staff. Through a national framework we will consider limits and targets for locum deployment and expenditure, underpinned by standard operating systems.
