Will the Minister state how much was saved by cutting business rate relief for privately owned hydro schemes?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Climate Change
The cost of providing business rates relief to privately owned hydro projects during financial year 2020-21, the last year they were eligible within the scheme, was £382,268.92. Based on the criteria previously applied to the relief scheme and changes in the level of business rates we can confidently assume this amount would increase in subsequent years.
The UK Government’s decision to reduce Feed-in-Tariff rates, and then to close the scheme, removed the route to market for many small scale renewable energy generators. This is the reason for a slow down in deployment of hydropower schemes in Wales.
