What duties do local authorities have to run venues such as leisure centres and swimming pools for public use?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Chief Whip
Local Authorities have a range of statutory duties and discretionary powers, including powers to provide leisure centres and swimming pools for public use. These powers allow an authority to provide facilities inside or outside its area.
Authorities will consider the needs and wishes of their local population in the round, and how these may be met, as part of their ongoing engagement with their citizens and in the context of their wider responsibilities including those in the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
