What assessment has the Welsh Government and associated stakeholders made regarding the recurring flooding from the Gwendraeth Fawr river at Capel Teilo Road between Trimsaran and Kidwelly?

The Welsh Government funds Risk Management Authorities (RMAs) to assess the flood risk to communities. The Gwendraeth Fawr is designated as main river. The RMA responsible for managing the flood risk associated with the watercourse is Natural Resources Wales (NRW). NRW has permissive powers under the Water Resources Act 1991 to undertake work to reduce the risk of flooding to homes. NRW takes a Wales-wide risk-based approach in the prioritisation of activities.
Our National Strategy sets out how we prioritise investment towards the most at-risk communities. The assessment of potential schemes for funding remains the responsibility of the RMA to consider. In doing so, it will need to prioritise such work against other demands and its existing work programme, taking into account the number of properties at risk and the nature of such risk.
