What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the increase in seatbelt offences by drivers in Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Climate Change
We publish statistics annually of motoring offences: Motoring offences: 2021 | GOV.WALES. In table 1 we published broad categories of fixed penalty notices, including seat belt offences, which increased by 26% compared to 2020. A number of other offences increased from 2020 too (some did decrease) which is likely a reflection of the coronavirus restrictions in place at the time.
We publish the longer time series on StatsWales . Here it can be seen that at seatbelt offences in 2021 were the lowest they have been since records began in 2011, except for 2020. The figures increased by 26% compared to 2020 but decreased by 7% compared to 2019.
