In 2021 the UK Government Storm Overflow Taskforce commissioned environmental consultants, Stantec, to provide a detailed understanding of the issues around storm overflows, and the costs and benefits of different policies, scenarios and solutions that respond to those priorities.
The resulting publication was the Storm Overflow Evidence Project (SOEP) published in November 2021, which can be found online at Storm overflows evidence project (publishing.service.gov.uk).
Last year, the Welsh Government procured Stantec to undertake similar research, but with a focus on the specific circumstances and evidence available for Wales. This is the first research of its kind for Wales and obtaining accurate and detailed data has been a lengthy process. We expect to receive the findings of the research in Spring 2023.
