In support of the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Strategy for Wales and associated Action Plan, published by the Welsh Government in 2021, Transport for Wales (TfW) have started the process of delivering Phase 1 of TfW’s railway station EV charging infrastructure project. Starting with 10 car park locations at Core Valley Lines (CVL) stations, the rail-based EV charging project will be installing fast charging points in as many Wales and Borders station car parks as possible. Phase 1 comprises a total of 19 individual chargepoints.
Fast chargers (7-22 kilowatt) have a charging time of up to 5 hours and are principally intended for rail commuters who will park their vehicle and return to it several hours later. The chargers are expected to be installed this summer.
