What is the Welsh Government doing to stimulate improved enhanced productivity, innovation and animal welfare in smaller abattoirs in Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd
We provide a range of industry support which small slaughterhouses in Wales can access to enhance productivity and innovation.
We take animal welfare very seriously and there are controls in place in slaughterhouses. Official Veterinarians (OVs) of the Food Standards Agency are present to oversee compliance with the welfare regulations. The industry itself has published extensive guidance on good practice on protecting animal welfare. We have made a commitment to require CCTV in all slaughterhouses during this Government’s term.
