How many new nurses does the Welsh Government want the Welsh NHS to recruit in 2023?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Health and Social Services
The Welsh Government has not set a target for nurse recruitment. Individual recruitment targets for new nurses are held by the health boards, which are responsible for the services.
The Welsh Government is supporting health boards to recruit registered nurses to meet their workforce requirements and to close the vacancy gap. We are investing additional funding to increase nurse training places and recruiting internationally, where this is ethical. Over 400 international nurses were recruited across Wales last year through the first phase of a national programme and plans are being developed for further international recruitment this year.
