What action is being taken to support the film and TV industry in Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism
Creative Wales supports the Film & TV industry directly through production funding and logistical support for productions, development funding, investing in skills & talent development and through investment in our studio infrastructure. We are also focussed on supporting the sector with both wellbeing, through our wellbeing facilitator pilot programme and sustainability, through our screen new deal project.
Since Creative Wales was established in January 2020, £16.3 million of production funding has been successfully awarded to 31 projects generating over £187.1 million of production spend into the Welsh economy. 267 trainees have also had paid placements on productions such as Havoc, Sex Education and Black Cake.
In the last two years alone, Wales Screen, Creative Wales’ location service, received over 900 production enquiries from film and TV crews wanting to take advantage of the country’s world-class facilities. This is largely due to Wales’ growing reputation as a film friendly nation.
Creative Wales Funding for independent Film, with Welsh talent at the heart, is delivered via Ffilm Cymru Wales. The agreement which was for £1m per annum for an initial 2 years, has seen a huge increase in demand for film funding.
