The Curriculum for Wales is a national framework for learners aged 3 to 16 to support practitioners to develop their school curriculum: allowing them flexibility to meet the specific needs of their learners in their contexts and communities.
Within the curriculum, the statements of what matters in Humanities require learners to learn about social action and support learners to “take committed social action as caring, participative citizens of their local, national and global communities”. This provides schools opportunities to consider a range of different types of social action, such as co-operatives.
Careers and Work-Related Experiences has also been given a real focus within the Curriculum for Wales. The ‘Robert Owen’ Pilot Project, on Co-operatives and Careers within the world of work will help to raise awareness and understanding of co-operatives in primary and secondary schools across Wales.
