Progress against the target is monitored through the Affordable Housing Provision statistical release. The first statistical release reporting progress against the target was issued on 2 February 2023. The release shows that 2,676 additional affordable homes were delivered between April 2021 and March 2022.
As I outlined in my Written Statement of 15 June 2021, the housing target for this Senedd term has a narrower definition than that of the previous Senedd term. More than 2,500 of the homes reported in the 2021-22 statistical release will contribute to the housing target. This figure includes homes for social rent, intermediate rent and shared ownership delivered by registered social landlords and local authorities. The next release is due for publication this Autumn. This release will report on the affordable homes provided between April 2022 and March 2023.
All affordable homes supported by Welsh Government meet Welsh Development Quality Requirements. A new standard was issued in October 2021 which sets energy and decarbonisation requirements including achieving Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A and not using fossil fuel heating and hot water systems.
