What steps is the Welsh Government taking to encourage cruise ships to anchor in Llandudno Bay?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism
The role of Cruise Wales within the Welsh Government is to market Wales as a major cruise destination. Our activities include attending Seatrade Europe, Med and Global to promote all our ports and destinations.
My officials have recently returned from Seatrade Europe in Hamburg, where they received several requests for the anchorage details of Llandudno, which they are following up.
We work closely with Conwy County Borough Council and will continue to promote Llandudno, particularly for smaller Explora vessels that are content to anchor offshore and use their RIB boats to access the concrete slipway or the sandy beach, and for the likes of Hebridean Cruise Line who would gain shore access via tenders to the two wooden jetties.
Future activities include organising a five-day familiarisation visit for cruise ship executives, ground handlers and excursion planners for the week commencing 6 November 2023 with Llandudno included in the itinerary.
