Does the Minister intend to introduce funding for waking watches in Wales, considering the recent news that a judge has ruled leaseholders are not responsible for costs?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Climate Change
Our approach in Wales is to ensure all required works to address fire safety issues are undertaken, which will remove the need for a waking watch.
I am pleased to see some developers are funding waking watches, I commend these developers, they have set an example that others should follow. My officials have met with developers and have strongly encouraged them to follow this example.
I continue to consider all the options to support leaseholders, ensure that fire safety issues are addressed and that leaseholders do not bear the costs of making their buildings safe.
