What discussions has the Welsh Government had with a view to ensuring that the Post Office doesn’t lose its contract with the DVLA?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Social Partnership
Neither DVLA nor Post Office matters are devolved to the Welsh Government. I am nevertheless concerned where issues affect people in Wales.
My officials are in regular contact with Post Office Limited and I meet it when there is a pertinent issue to discuss. I have had no discussions about this matter, however, I will raise this matter at my next meeting.
From a digital inclusion perspective, the Post Office is one of the few places where services continue to be delivered face-to-face. There are many people who either prefer to access services face-to-face or are unable to access services online.
I am aware the DVLA contract with Post Office Limited has been extended to 31 March 2024. Post Office Limited has advised it would like to continue to offer DVLA services after the contract has ended, however, there are currently no plans to extend the contract beyond this date.
