Research and innovation funding is allocated to the higher education sector by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) each academic year. As a public body, HEFCW receive grant-in-aid funding from the Welsh Government to regulate and support institutions. HEFCW publish financial allocations annually and a breakdown of the research and innovation funding for the past five years is provided. Further detailed information can be found on the HEFCW website through circular publications: Circulars Archive - HEFCW
The year-on-year percentage changes is included, but analysis in cash and real terms is not available at this time. I will follow up and provide this information as soon as practical.
Funding for specific research activity provided in other parts of the education and Welsh language portfolio is not included in this response.
