What action will the Minister take in response to calls from the Royal Society of Chemistry for action on so-called forever chemicals in drinking water?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Climate Change
Water companies in Wales already risk assess and monitor levels of Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances (PFAS), often referred to as forever chemicals, in drinking water in accordance with the requirements set by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI). The Inspectorate identified 47 compounds of particular interest. The latest annual drinking water report for Wales can be found at Drinking Water 2022 – The Chief Inspector’s report for drinking water in Wales (dwi-content.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com). We continue to work with DWI and other stakeholders on assessing the risks PFAS pose in the water environment to strengthen our understanding and help inform future policy options.
