What assessment has the Welsh Government made of whether a teaching workforce that does not reflect the same ethnic and cultural diversity as its learners will deliver an inferior education experience?

All learners will benefit from having a teaching workforce that represents the cultural diversity of Wales in the 21st century. To achieve this we are working to increase diversity in our workforce to enable learners to develop a better understanding of the communities in which they live and the wider world. A workforce that is more representative of the population will also assist in closing the attainment gap for all learners.
This sits alongside the changes we have introduced in Curriculum for Wales.
During the past year we have undertaken small-scale research with school leaders to understand experiences in the first year of our new curriculum Research with schools and learners on the early implementation of Curriculum for Wales | GOV.WALES.
The second report of this work, which included findings on how Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic histories are being developed and delivered in the curriculum, was published September 2023.
I have also published an Evaluation Plan for the Curriculum for Wales which will provide insight into how the curriculum is being delivered. This work with schools, learners, and parents across the country will help us understand how the curriculum is working and inform our support for schools.
