Is the Welsh Government working to ensure that there is provisions in Wales for recycling waste such as wood chippings?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Climate Change
We are confident there is enough recycling infrastructure either already in place, or in development, in Wales to manage the high quality recyclate we collect, including additional recyclate collected as a result of the new Workplace Recycling Regulations. Separating recyclables at source results in high quality materials being captured that can be used by Welsh manufacturers.
Examples of the extent of existing recycling infrastructure in Wales includes: Recresco in Cwmbran which recycles glass, Capital Valley in Cwmavon which handles plastic recycling, Celsa in Cardiff which handles metal packaging and scrap and Kronospan in Chirk, which is a major recycler of wood waste. Kronospan recycles over 350,000 tonnes of woodchips per year, which is equivalent to over twice the amount produced in Wales. We also have five anaerobic digestion plants distributed across Wales recycling food waste.
