What is the Welsh Government doing to combat shortages of hormone replacement therapy, which make up almost half of serious shortage protocols issued according to The Pharmaceutical Journal?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Health and Social Services
I set out the extensive measures taken by the Welsh and UK Governments to support pharmacists, prescribers and patients to manage shortages in my written statement on this matter, published on 18 October. The statement can be accessed at: https://www.gov.wales/written-statement-disruptions-supply-medicines
Maintaining the continuity of supply of medicines to the UK is a reserved matter and is the responsibility of the UK Government. However, managing the implications of supply disruptions for patients and the NHS requires co-ordinated action between the UK and devolved governments, and the NHS.
Welsh Government officials work closely with their counterparts in the UK Government, manufacturers, wholesalers, prescribers and pharmacies to mitigate the effect of any disruption.
