What plans does the Minister have to improve rail links between west and north Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Climate Change
Rail infrastructure in Wales is not devolved, and remains the responsibility of the UK Government to fund and deliver. Transport for Wales have carried out a WelTAG stage 1 study into options to improve links between north and west Wales, including how to protect potential travel corridors along the western coast of Wales from Swansea to Bangor.
We have invested £800million in brand new rolling stock. The assembled in Wales CAF Class 197s began operating in West Wales in December. Meaning it is now possible to travel from Fishguard to Holyhead entirely on new Transport for Wales trains. Clearance was also given in December for combined 6-car Class 197 trains to run from Swansea to Holyhead.
