How will the 4.9 per cent rise in Transport for Wales fare prices from March this year impact the demand for rail services and the Welsh Government’s sustainable travel targets?

Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Climate Change
We have acted to limit the increase in Transport for Wales rail fares as far as possible while balancing the need to meet the costs of current services, and our planned improvements. Passenger numbers rose by 9% last year and we expect a continued increase this year as we operate more new trains alongside the roll out of cheaper fares via Pay As You Go ticketing, and greater availability of lower cost advance tickets for longer journeys.
This rise is in line with the decision taken by the UK Government on rail fares in England.
