Welsh Government provides comprehensive support to agri-food businesses across Wales.
2023-24 farm businesses were allocated £238m through the Basic Payment Scheme, and they have also received comprehensive advisory support through Farming Connect and Farm Liaison Service.
Food businesses have benefitted from a comprehensive support programme including trade development, market insight, export support, technical advice, skills development, networking, and capital investment.
At the micro and local scale of the food system, the Welsh Government is committed under the Programme for Government and Co-operation Agreement to publishing a Community Food Strategy in 2024 to encourage the production and supply of locally sourced food. The Community Food strategy will aim to maximise the potential of diverse, and wider food related initiatives throughout our communities, with emphasis on stronger co-ordination and connection to public bodies’ well-being planning.
