Promoting teaching as a career, getting undergraduates and A-level students engaged earlier, and creating new opportunities for adults to join the profession are crucial to ensure a pipeline into ITE and thereafter the teaching profession.
Teaching Wales is a Welsh Government marketing campaign to encourage people into teaching. The campaign is linked to the Educators Wales website, recruitment, advocacy, and support service. The Welsh Government works with partners to raise the profile of teaching as a career. This includes advocacy work at large scale events for example such as the Urdd, National Eisteddfod and Eid in the Park. Activity by EWC also includes working closely with Careers Wales to deliver information sessions on careers with education in Wales, in schools and attendance at school careers fairs. The EWC also supports ITE Partnerships in delivering their context specific recruitment activity, which includes activity in schools.
We also utilise the ITE incentive schemes in Wales to encourage those most needed in the teaching profession, such as STEM graduates and Welsh speakers to consider undertaking ITE. For young people where full-time study is not an option, we continue to support the Part-time PGCE and the Salaried PGCE. I have committed to a further three academic years of funding for Salaried PGCE student teachers from academic 2024-25.
