What discussions will the Cabinet Secretary have with train operators to ensure that there is sufficient capacity on the network for those attending large events in Cardiff such as the Cardiff Half Marathon?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
I have regular discussions with Transport for Wales regarding capacity for major events and I am pleased they were able to collaborate with other train operators and industry stakeholders to provide earlier services from key stations into Cardiff prior to the start of the Cardiff Half Marathon which were utilised by a significant number of participants. This year was the first time that this was possible thanks to the new agreements Transport for Wales have in place with train crew on Sunday working demonstrating what can be achieved for passengers when we work in social partnership.
Additionally, over the summer, TfW successfully delivered event plans to transport hundreds of thousands of passengers to major events such as the Taylor Swift concerts in Cardiff and the National Eisteddfod in Pontypridd and are already engaging with the Cardiff Half Marathon organisers to plan services for next year’s event.
