What steps is the Welsh Government taking to prevent the spread of avian flu to dairy farms?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
APHA has assessed the risk to GB livestock from the USA strain of avian flu in dairy cattle to be very low. Precautionary bulk milk testing and wider surveillance has not detected this strain of avian flu virus in GB.
Nevertheless, we are working with the other GB administrations and agencies including APHA and FSA to monitor the situation and develop contingency plans. In line with other countries, GB has published a case definition to allow us to monitor, triage and if necessary, test any report cases so we can focus our resources appropriately.
