Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the enforcement of train ticket checks on penalty fare zone lines since they were expanded?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Transport for Wales have recently extended penalty fares to more lines to provide a more proportionate deterrent to ticketless travel and to protect revenue.
Penalty fares are enforced by ticket checks undertaken by conductors, a dedicated revenue protection team, and at station gate lines. We have invested in improved gate lines at some stations to protect revenue, speed up ticket checks and allow for new payment systems such as Pay As You Go. All trains are staffed by a conductor who is able to sell tickets as well as check them.
