What consideration has the Cabinet Secretary given to introducing a legal requirement for public bus operators in Wales to transport mobility scooters?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
The Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000 (PSVAR) mandate that all public service vehicles with more than 22 seats in England, Scotland, and Wales must provide disabled access, including a wheelchair bay, a wheelchair ramp or other boarding device, and priority seating. This is not devolved to Wales.
Most buses are designed to accommodate mobility scooters, but size and weight restrictions can apply. While there is no legal requirement for transport companies to carry mobility scooters, Class 2 scooters are generally accepted on coaches and buses. However, it is advisable to check with the specific company before travel is undertaken.
