What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the impact of violence against teachers on school staff recruitment and retention?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Education
I am deeply concerned by the recent press coverage of poor behaviour experienced by teaching staff. Any form of violence or abuse against staff or pupils in our schools is completely unacceptable. Schools should be safe spaces for learners and staff and all education settings in Wales have a legal duty to provide a safe learning environment.
We are continually reviewing the information that is collected from schools and local authorities on exclusions to ensure we have an understanding of the issues schools face with poor behaviour. We are also discussing ways to drive up recruitment and retention of staff with our partners including local authorities and the education unions.
