Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the park and ride facility at New Inn, and confirm when it is expected to open?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Torfaen County Borough Council has been working together with Network Rail and Transport for Wales, to ensure the new park and ride facility at Pontypool and New Inn is open as quickly as possible. Any new facility of this nature is subject to industry regulation and there were some outstanding historical issues, mainly around platform gradients, that needed to be resolved before the facility could be granted authorisation to open. Unfortunately resolving these issues has led to some delays, but they are being addressed to ensure the facility meets the strict operational criteria, necessary for an operational railway environment.
Torfaen County Borough Council officers have informed my officials that the new park and ride facility at Pontypool and New Inn railway station is due to open next month.
