How will communities across Wales be consulted on the National Energy System Operator proposals for a a new high-voltage onshore connection between north and south Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
These are matters for the National Energy System Operator (NESO) in considering the work National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) has carried out in response to the NESO’s recommendation, and if a new line is confirmed, consultation on routes is for the company that will be building it.
I have met with both NESO and the NGET late last year. In these meetings, I was very clear that they need to make sure that any plans take into account Wales's needs and are in line with our suite of policies in Wales. I am very clear that proposals for new grid need to ensure that they not only meet our need for clean electricity but also meet the needs and respectfully address the concerns of communities who will host developments.
