What action is the Welsh Government taking to ensure sustainable finances of universities in Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Minister for Further and Higher Education
Welsh Government has increased the tuition fee cap for 2025/26, providing up to £21.9m in additional income to universities. We have also provided an additional £10m to the sector, bringing total grant funding to over £200m in the current financial year.
Medr reports to Welsh Government regularly on the financial position of the higher education sector as part of its regular risk review process and monitoring of institutions. This includes regular engagement with university leaders and finance directors.
We are working with the UK Government to develop proposals for reform of the higher education sector, with the goal of ensuring financial sustainability for our universities in Wales.
