What plans does the Welsh Government have to review local authority charging policies for residential social care to ensure they are fair and do not disproportionately disadvantage younger adults?

Atebwyd gan Minister for Children and Social Care
Following the consultation on raising the weekly maximum charge for adult non-residential care and support, a written statement was published on 6 December 2024. The level of the maximum charge is not being raised at this time, but officials will proceed to address inconsistencies in the operationalising of the charging regime across Local Authorities in Wales. They will also look at creating an appeals process and consider whether a shared services approach could be undertaken at either a regional or national level. In carrying out a review of the current charging policies, officials will ensure that they are fair and do not disproportionately disadvantage younger adults.
