Welsh Government takes the health and safety of social care workers extremely seriously; everyone deserves to feel safe at work. We have published Your well-being matters: workforce health and well-being framework, which is available for all social care staff in Wales to access. The Framework provides guidance and resources to support workplaces to make four commitments, including to ‘create safe working environments which are continuously improving and support health and well-being’.
Through the work of the Social Care Fair Work Forum, we have recently established the Social Care Workforce Partnership, a tripartite social partnership group dedicated to improving terms and conditions for social care workers in Wales. Following consultation with the social care workforce and employers, the Partnership agreed three priorities to focus on over the next 12 months which includes the development of a health and safety, including violence in the workplace policy. This policy will be informed by models of best practices and align with ongoing initiatives
We work closely with Social Care Wales, which is a sponsored body, to continuously support the health, wellbeing and safety of social care workers. The Social Care Workforce Delivery Plan 2025–27 includes actions to support health and safety within the workplace. Examples include providing guidance on the purpose, function and benefits of organisational safety committees, and delivering workshops, webinars and training to address managerial support and clarify policies and procedures. Actions will be integrated into the work of the Partnership and other organisations.
